Bitumen VG10 and VG20 are two viscosity-grade bitumen used mostly in road construction. VG10 with a low viscosity is recommended for cold climate use and for surface dressing and paving in cold regions. VG20 is used for making binder courses as well as asphalt mixes in road construction in moderate-climate countries. Both Grades have better susceptibility to temperature and were also performing better than penetration-grade bitumen. Most modern road technologies require better quality control management or VG grading to avoid mishaps. Hence, these binders mainly depend on superior quality control and therefore, VG grading. In India, VG10 and VG20 that conform to IS 73 are made by refining crude oil. Those materials make pavements more durable and adherent. Plus, they’re less likely to crack.
